Rose Hip Festival

19 – 21 October 2018


The rosehip is one of the characteristic plants of the hills around Sâncraiu. The fruit of this bush is used for herbal tea and an excellent tasting jam, after it’s frostbitten. The jam cooking competition involves several teams with the participation of local women. The tourists can follow the stages of preparation and can taste the finished product.


19 October 2018 - Friday:

- arrival in the afternoon, reception in a traditional Kalotaszeg barn

- accommodation and dinner at the hosts

- cultural program in community center

20  October 2018 – Saturday:

- breakfast at the hosts

- Jam preparing competition: jam tasting with purchase option, craftsmen fair, horse-drawn wagon riding, possibility of buying food and beverages

- in the afternoon excursion to the valley of the Someş river: Beliş: dam and reservoir, Mărişel: cross of Avram Iancu

- dinner at the hosts

- ball at the community center: Hungarian folk music, show of the folk dance ansamble, learning folk dances, announcing the winners of the competition


21 october 2018 -  Sunday:

- breakfast at the hosts

- trip to the the picturesque valley of the Stanciu stream and the Vălul Miresei waterfall

- Bologa: medieval fort and water mill




-          accommodation, half board: 42 EUR / person

-          Single room:                      + 11 EUR / person

-           Guide services:                   60 EUR / day



-ball entrance fee: ~ 3 Eur/pers

- the accommodation and meals are provided by Hungarian families in Sâncraiu. There is usually one bathroom belonging to two rooms.

- during their trips the tourists travel by their own vehicles. On request you can rent a minibus or a jeep

- program may change depending on weather conditions

- the 6 km distance between Răchiţele village and  Vălul Miresei waterfall can be covered on foot or by car, on forest road. Please, bring proper clothing and footware.
